Get Alarmed, North Carolina!

Get Alarmed, North Carolina! is a program of the N.C. Division of Public Health, the Office of State Fire Marshal, the UNC Hospitals Jaycee Burn Center and the UNC Injury Prevention Research Center. The mission of Get Alarmed, North Carolina! is to reduce fire deaths and injuries among North Carolina residents.  This mission is accomplished by providing fire safety education and installing smoke alarms in the homes of residents at greatest risk of fire injury. This project targets low-income residents in households with older adults, families with children under age six, and people with disabilities. The project has documented over 90 potential lives saved in the first 6 years.

Get Alarmed, North Carolina! is funded by a cooperative agreement from the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control at the CDC. A request for applications is issued each year to fire agencies throughout the state. Injury and Violence Prevention also collaborates with other state agencies to provide educational resources for fire departments, health departments and other community-based organizations to promote fire safety in communities throughout the state.

Get Alarmed North Carolina! funds North Carolina fire agencies. The current funding cycle is closed. The RFA is provided here as a reference only.
