Safe Storage of Firearms

North Carolina law states that anyone who resides with a minor and owns or possesses a firearm must store it in a way that will prevent an unsupervised minor from gaining access to it. For more information read the full North Carolina Firearms Laws.

The recommendations of the Academy of Pediatrics and American Medical Society state that guns should be stored safely.

Safe storage means:

  • Store the firearm locked and unloaded; and,
  • Have the ammunition locked and stored separately.
